Battocchio leaves Watford for Virtus Entella

Cristian Battocchio has left Watford to join Serie B side Virtus Entella on loan.

The 22-year-old midfielder posted a video of some of his most memorable moments in a Hornets’ shirt along with the message: “Thank you very much #WatfordFC” on social networking website Instagram.

Battocchio joined Watford on an initial season-long loan deal from sister club Udinese in August 2012 and scored his first goal for the club during the 4–0 win over Huddersfield Town on January 19 2013. The goal, which came at the end of a flowing team move, has since been described as one of the best goals ever seen at Vicarage Road.

Battocchio joined the Hornets on a permanent basis in July 2013, signing a three-year deal, but has been deemed surplus to requirements due to the increased competition for places under head coach Giuseppe Sannino.

  1. I am dismayed at this decision. He was young developing and had a wonderful attitude towards his football and life. I am very sad at his departure. If it was a loan move I would perhaps accept it but I feel this one may come back and bite us.

    • It says ‘on an initial season long loan’, doesn’t mean to say he may not come back; after all it might not work out etc etc
